CCM: William, what intrigued you about Rapture Ruckus’ music to want to incorporate it into your stories?
William Hawk: I was introduced to Rapture Ruckus around the time I was finishing the basic outline of the first book. I grew up a hard-core rock ‘n roller: Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Ted Nugent, anything hard-driving was my favorite. I was never particularly into rock and rap until I heard Brad’s music, particularly the Invader Vol. 2 EP. It gave me that same high-energy fix, but with the spiritual overtones. After listening to the music several times through, I began to pick up on themes that were very similar between the book and the music. Then as I continued to write terms such as parallax, minefield, and ignition, my mission seeped into the pages. It became obvious to me that God was making a connection between the music and the book.

CCM: Brad, what intrigued you about the author’s story?
BD: First, I think I was very intrigued by his personal story and journey he had shared with me. I felt like we both had a similar moment of encountering God that changed everything and set our lives on different paths.

Then, I became very excited about the book and the potential I saw for it to really challenge the way we see life and the supernatural. Especially the second installment which really dives deep into the decisions we make and the way they shape our thoughts and emotions. It’s good stuff!

CCM: Had you ever worked with a musician on this level before, something like this that was linked to one of your projects?
WH: I never dreamed I’d even be publishing books, let alone be involved with a music project. I just felt so strongly that God wanted me to reach out to this band and share my story with them. It’s still crazy to me how it all came together.
