CCM: With all of this going on, did you feel like an orphan?
SM: My whole life it’s always felt like that. And, I’m very driven, but I don’t know where I got it from? One of my mentors asked me, “Where do you think you got this inner-drive?” Like, I’m always creating. Everything that I have, I’ve created on my own ambition and my own choices, you know what I mean?

CCM: Like, constantly pulling yourself up by the bootstraps?
SM: Yes.

CCM: Fast-forward, and you’re having this new spiritual experience. Giving our lives to God should be this complete idea of surrender. And yet, you’ve been fighting for it this whole time?
SM: Yeah, man.

CCM: When God entered the picture, how did you know that it was God? With your given context, how did you connect those dots?
SM: Keep in mind, even considering my surroundings growing up, I was still relatively a good kid. Just focused on pursuing my dream, my talents. I wasn’t out selling drugs. I wasn’t in-and-out of jail. I didn’t have any kids out of wedlock, etc.
