There are inspired moments on The Royal Royal’s full-length debut, The Return of the King, that draw the listener in—the spacious approach of “Light A Fire” and pop appeal of “The Lights,” to name a few. Unfortunately the earnest sincerity of the Canadian duo is outdone by endless repetition and underwhelming melodies on tracks such as “A Real Strength” or “Every Little Bit of Praise.”
