7Core is at the forefront of independent Christian music in the U.K., and their brand of alternative and ambient music is steadily making its way around the globe. Their new sampler, 7Core Sonics 3, showcases artists with a variety of styles—everything from the contemporary sonic landscapes of The Neon Ambience to the driving rock and roll worship music of Ian Yates.

Foldinglights, the brainchild of Michael Peter Ball, provides a stark, exposed beauty with the majestic “Noose.” But the star of the sampler is unquestionably Tina Boonstra, who supplies two tracks, “Concrete Heart” and “Prodigal.” Boonstra, with an emotionally fraught voice that’s reminiscent of Fiona Apple, seems destined for the big time. Overall, the 7Core Sonics 3 sampler is a solid effort with some absolutely standout tracks.
