Louie Weaver, renowned drummer for the iconic Christian rock band Petra, and his wife were recently subjected to a distressing scam that has left them in financial turmoil. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the increasing prevalence of scams in the Nashville area.

The Weavers, longtime residents of Davidson County, TN, were targeted by scammers posing as representatives of the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department. The scammers employed a local phone number to lend credibility to their deceitful scheme. They informed the couple that they were under arrest due to a missed court date related to their federal COVID-19 small business Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan.

The scammers displayed an alarming level of knowledge about the Weavers, including their personal information and the exact loan amount, even presenting a forged court summons to make their claim appear legitimate. With his wifes real estate license hanging in the balance, the couple felt cornered and decided to comply with the scammers’ demands.

In a harrowing turn of events, Louie and his wife were coerced into sending a total of $20,700 from a cryptocurrency booth in three separate transactions. These transactions drained their bank account, leaving them with a mere $5 to their name.

A concerned neighbor initiated a fundraising campaign to support the Weaver family during this challenging time. The initiative aims to offer some relief to the Weavers, who have been pillars of their community and have selflessly extended a helping hand to many.

Notably, the Metro Police Department in Nashville has reported a surge in similar scam incidents in recent months. According to local authorities, there have been approximately 40 such cases in Middle Tennessee. The issue has reached such proportions that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been contacted to investigate and address this growing concern.

The community has rallied around the Weavers, not only to offer financial support but also to raise awareness about the prevalent scams in the region. The fundraiser has been initiated to assist them in their time of need, with the hope of helping them recover from the considerable financial setback.
