Modern worship artist Amanda Danziger has released her new song and concept music video—based on Psalm 13’s anguished question—titled “How Long?”

King David’s Psalm 13 reaches across the millennia asking God a question that’s troubled all people since Adam and Eve were expelled from the Garden: “How long will you hide your face from me?” Singer-songwriter Amanda Danziger brings it into the modern era in her latest release, “How Long” and shares the Good News that answers our question: “But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation.”

“This psalm speaks to me about our human condition as we suffer depression, anxiety, grief and pain,” Amanda says. “As I read it, a song came into my heart and I transcribed it to share with you here.”

Jesus Freak Hideout’s Josh Balogh called “How Long” an “absolute career highlight song,” following the release of Amanda’s five-song EP, Head & Heart, last year’s “The Only,” and her most recent “Intercede.” Using her emotive voice, Amanda alternates between the powerful rich center of her range and the lilting higher range in a haunting minor-key melody. ‘How Long’ is a home run of a song and a much-needed encouragement for the body of Christ that is sure to make this listener’s top tracks of the year playlist.”

Lyrics

How long, Lord, will you forget me forever?

How long will you hide your face from me?

How long, Lord, must I wrestle with my thoughts?

And day after day, have sorrow in my heart?

How long will my enemy, triumph over me?

Look on me and answer.

Lord my God.

Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death.

And my enemy will say I have overcome him, and my foes will rejoice when I fall.

Fall…

fall…

fall…

when I fall.

But I trust in your unfailing love

My heart rejoices in your salvation

I will sing of the Lord’s praise,

For he has been good to me.

For you are

good….

good….

good to me.

How long, Lord? Must I wrestle with my thoughts?

And day after day, have sorrow in my heart?

How long, Lord, will you forget me forever?

How long, oh, how long?
