If you were expecting Rend Collective‘s new release Good News (buy) to contain an album full of eclectic instrumental sonics, complete with exuberant vocal vibrancies, you won’t be disappointed—far from it. Although, these stringy and percussive tones are what we’ve come to expect from this band of Irishmen, as their beloved live performances and wooded outdoor recordings have won the hearts of Christian music fans and beyond. Good News is more than just a continuance of signature Rend sounds, however. With the project’s main theme of being free in Christ, along with its namesake and default title track “Rescuer (Good News),” the record’s contents are as much a breath of fresh air as finally getting a batch of new studio recordings from the band—everything about Good News seems extremely timely. “Life Is Beautiful,” “Counting Every Blessing,” “True North,” and “Resurrection Day” lead the charge for putting something authentically positive in your playlist.
