Josh Turner ‘I Serve A Savior’ Album Review

Josh Turner
I Serve A Savior

Josh Turner’s I Serve A Savior is the long-awaited culmination for both artist and fan base. A gospel-oriented project has remained a passion project for quite some time for the country music star, and an unexpected opportunity with Gaither Studios allowed him to fulfill a lifelong dream to record an accompanying live DVD.

Turner’s signature baritone remains front and center in the mix of these original songs and gospel standards. “I Saw The Light” has rarely sounded so good despite the countless covers over the years. A spirited take on Turner’s own hit “Long Black Train” sounds right at home next to “How Great Thou Art” and “Amazing Grace.” Turner’s children join in on a heartening new track, “The River,” a musical invitation to join the family on their spiritual journey. It’s the same way the entire album feels, which makes this anticipated project well worth the wait.
