The queen of contemporary Christian and pop Christmas returns with her first entirely fresh Yuletide release in 17 years, and though Amy Grant already has a deeply beloved seasonal treasure trove, Tennessee Christmas (buy) ranks right up there amongst her finest work. In addition to a mature and earthy re-working of the title track, this installment actually favors originals to covers that continue in the organic and unvarnished tradition of her last few regular studio albums. As far as new tunes go, “To Be Together,” “December” and “Another Merry Christmas” are surely standards in the making, while “Melancholy Christmas” may initially paint the more somber side of the season, but ultimately discovers hope. Already familiar highlights include a jazzy trip through “White Christmas,” a cute and cuddly duet with hubby Vince Gill on “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” plus the homespun beauty of the acoustic guitar and choir-adorned “O Come All Ye Faithful” to wrap up this warm and stellar stocking stuffer.

I’m not really one for buying Christmas albums but this one is amazing. Love Amy’s voice and glad to FINALLY hear something fresh and new. the past ten years have been a lot of re recordings and not a lot of new material. Glad to see she’s still very much in the game
