Lacey Sturm served as co-host on the latest episode of Trevor Talks to interview Skillet’s Korey Cooper, creating a once-in-a-lifetime conversation between two of the most influential forces in purpose-driven rock.

Throughout the course of the hour-long interview, the two musicians share about the tensions of living life between home and the road and touring with family. They offer insight into the unique challenges and demands of a call into music, and what makes it worth it. Both women approach it from a perspective of deep humility. Korey says, “If I can see people walk in freedom in the kingdom of God, and His glory fills this earth, I want to be a part of that.”

“God is constantly forming us into what He created us for,” Lacey adds. “Our testimony is not about our greatness. It’s about how He rescued us from our death.”

Korey and Lacey have been longtime friends, co-laborers in the Kingdom and also frequent collaborators. In this episode, they offer a little about what creating together looks like, including a look at the writing process for Lacey’s recent single “Awaken Love.”

The rich conversation concludes with words of hope for listeners struggling with depression, addiction, loss, suicidal ideation or any other impossible heartbreak— topics that both artists have often spoken to with unique resonance and urgency.

“You wouldn’t be breathing if God was not holding it together,” Lacey gently offers. “He’s in it still, even when it’s dark. He’s actually doing beautiful things.”

Korey follows with an invitation: “Let yourself fall apart in the presence of God, and know that He’s going to meet you there.”
