CCM: You mentioned leaving the label and being independent. What are you learning about your fans in this process?
JT: They’re a lot like you and me. They’re real people that experience the same joy and heartbreak that we do. Marketers love to dissect data and analyze people and put them into boxes, but what I’ve found is that my fans—more like friends—are a very diverse group of kind-hearted people. What that means to me is that I want to keep being honest and transparent in everything I do, because that’s where real connection is made. It makes me excited for what’s next, because I don’t have to worry about a gimmick or an act. I just get to be myself and genuinely connect to some awesome folks that I learn from everyday.

CCM: Seeing as how we’re at the end of 2017, how will you remember the year?
JT: Where it all began! I genuinely feel like I’ve found my voice and my lane. Mainly, I’ve found the freedom to be myself, and I’m really excited to lean into that these next few years. I’m excited to keep working hard and get to know my fans/friends even more!
