“America Reads the Bible” launched April 19 and runs through Saturday, April 25, bringing together a wide range of voices that include musicians, public figures, pastors, and everyday believers for a singular goal: to read the entire Bible, out loud, together.
Hosted in part at the Museum of the Bible and streamed nationwide, the event blends in-person participation with digital access. Viewers can tune in for free through the Pure Flix, making it easy to drop in at any point during the continuous reading.
And with the event anchored in Washington, D.C., it naturally carries a unique mix of voices. Many of the participants come from the world of politics and public leadership including the President of the United States, Speaker Mike Johnston reading alongside some of our friends and familiar faces from the top tier of Christian entertainment. CCM Cover Story artists like Danny Gokey and Colton Dixon are part of the lineup, joined by Leeland, John Cooper, and Meredith Andrews. There are also appearances from well-known personalities like Candace Cameron Bure, Butch Hartman, and Patricia Heaton each taking on a portion of Scripture.
But this isn’t just a reading marathon. At the end of every hour, the event shifts into guided moments of worship and prayer, creating space for reflection between passages. For those attending in person, there are dedicated time blocks where worship leaders facilitate these moments live.
The movement is led by Christians Engaged, founded by Bunni Pounds. After more than two years of planning, the vision is now playing out in real time: a collective national call to return to Scripture.
Framed in part as a lead-up to the 250th anniversary of the United States, America Reads the Bible leans into the idea that the Word of God has long been a spiritual anchor in the nation’s story.
In a media landscape driven by noise and speed, this week-long reading feels intentionally different. No commentary. No debate. Just voices reading the words that have endured millennia after millennia.
