Scripture:     “No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”       (1 Cor. 10:13)

Reflection:    The other day I stood in the rain and beheld a glorious double rainbow.  Its colors were brilliant and I was reminded of God’s many promises towards his children.  One of those promises is that He will not give us more than we can bear.

The word “temptation” as used in 1 Cor. 10:13 is also defined as “test,” “trial,” and “adversity.”  The Message Bible translates it nicely, “No test or temptation that comes your way is beyond the course of what others have had to face.  All you need to remember is that God will never let you down; he’ll never let you be pushed past your limit; he’ll always be there to help you come through it.”

Like the Israelites of old, God will lead us out of undesirable situations and into pleasant places.  Along the way, there may be difficulties and challenges, even the temptation to give up on Him.  But the Lord is faithful even when we are not! He will make a way where there seems to be no way.

As demonstrated in the beauty of rainbows, God’s word, love and faithfulness remain forever. He’ll give you the strength to endure a trial and the provision for the way out of a temptation.  And yes, He might let you bend, but He won’t let you break.
