Lauren Bae ‘Wildflower’ Album Review

Lauren Bae
Wildflower
(Indie)

On her debut album Wildflower, Lauren Bae unveils an impressive vocal range is on full display on radio-friendly pop tracks that may not stand out from—but certainly stands alongside—other contemporary female artists. Wildflower’s front half features some interesting, electronically delivered global rhythms and instrumentation that immediately invite the listener to move along to the unconventional beats.

As compelling as the compositions are at times, some songs border on feeling overproduced which leaves the lyrical content difficult to understand (and slightly underwhelming in their originality). The title track, by contrast, brilliantly stands out with its unique take on the beautiful individuality we all possess in Christ. Here, Bae’s delivery is strong, clear and commanding. Another favorite is her take on the well-known worship song, “What a Beautiful Name.” With sparse production, pristine harmonies and a delicate yet powerful vocal performance, it showcases her capacity as a vocalist and the depth of her worshipper’s heart.
