Fresh-off of releasing his recent Hits & Hymns album, former Statler Brothers tenor Jimmy Fortune one-ups himself while he Sings The Classics (buy). Featuring covers of legendary hits from Eagles (“Take It To The Limit” featuring The Isaacs), Righteous Brothers (“Unchained Melody”), and John Denver (“Take Me Home, Country Roads”)—to name just a few—the project is produced by none other than gospel great Ben Isaacs. You wont find any Christian pop hits, gospel medleys, or even a hymn or two, but you don’t need those here. Sings The Classics is a perfectly executed compilation including some of the best voices and musicians on the planet, all headlined by Fortune. As if it was already almost not fair, Fortune also enlists the help from colleagues Ricky Skaggs (“Wake Up Little Susie”), The Isaacs, and Voices Of Lee (“Bridge Over Troubled Waters”), completing this force to be reckoned with. Other unforgettable moments found here, Fortune and friends covering “Danny’s Song” (Anne Murray), “Yesterday” (The Beatles), “Southern Nights” (Glen Campbell).
