In her new book, Know Yourself Know Your Money, Rachel offers in-depth insight into the psyche behind our financial mindset and educates us on the importance of working towards financial freedom. Rachel ask readers to look at the financial environment in which they grew up. Did your parents talk about money? If so, was the conversations calm or stressed? Or was did your family not talk about money …ever? We may not realize, but Rachel explains all of this plays a huge part in how we handle are own money journey’s today.

Rachel’s concept defines money conversations as verbal and emotional. If you are in classroom one, then the conversations in your household growing up were verbally closed, but emotionally stressed. This is to say nobody talked about money, but you could always feel the tensions around the topics of bills and such. Classroom two is when the conversations are considered verbally opened and emotionally stressed, while classroom three is where your “head is kind of in the sand”, meaning the conversations are verbally closed and emotionally calm. Finally, classroom four is the healthiest of the four and is when the conversations are verbally opened and emotionally calm. Although getting to this point and solving finical issues can have positive impact on your mental health, Rachel stresses that is not the root to happiness.

“Money doesn’t just fix everything… A lot of life’s problems can masquerade themselves as money problems… To be able to be a healthier person is going to help you to be able to be healthier in every part of your life, including your money. And that’s the key.”

Growing up as daughter to a financial guru, Rachel hated budgeting for years until she experienced the freedom of budgeting for herself. Rachel now shares fun, practical ways to take control of your money and create a life you love.
