Henderson/Roanoke Rapids, NC (October 2020)
In the summertime, 7-time GRAMMY winner TobyMac is usually performing to thousands at the largest Christian music festivals in the country. However, with live music nearly shut down for most of 2020, this titan did not sit back with arms crossed and give up. With Christian event promoter, Awakening Events, he and Gotee artist Michael Cochren gladly hit the road braving the elements on the popular Drive-In Theater Tour. From June – October they spread hope and encouragement with a dose of nostalgia to fans at 34 shows in 13+ states.

“A few Saturday nights every summer my family and I head to a local drive-in movie theaters. We always love it,” said TobyMac. “When we started discussing live shows in this quarantine season and the idea of playing drive-ins came up… I said, let’s gooooo! It feels like summer, safe for everybody, and we all get to enjoy live music again. We ’bout to make some memories!”

These shows were held on October 8th at the Raleigh Road Outdoor Theater in Henderson and on October 10th at The Roanoke Rapids Theatre in Roanoke Rapids.

The nostalgic drive-in venues, where it is easier to follow all local Covid-19 safety guidelines, provide a safer family-oriented live concert experience. Families can watch the show rain or shine both on stage and on the big screen from vantage points like a pickup truck bed, the back of an SUV, inside a vehicle, or in folding chairs on the ground where everyone is inside an assigned parking area.
