Switchfoot Performs Entire 2003 Album on The Beautiful Letdown 20th Anniversary Tour in Norfolk, Virginia October 14, 2023

Grammy and Dove Award-winning alt-rock band Switchfoot took their dedicated fans back to 2003, the year they released The Beautiful Letdown album, which became popular on both mainstream and Christian radio. The band performed the entire album along with a few other favorites on The Beautiful Letdown 20^th Anniversary Tour at The Norva in Norfolk, Virginia on October 14, 2023.

Switchfoot opened with hard-hitting song “Ammunition.” As if that wasn’t enough to energize the crowd, lead singer Jon Foreman jumped off the stage and into the crowd for second song, “This is Your Life.” He waded through the mass of bodies grasping various hands along the way. When he reached the area underneath the balcony, fans somehow hoisted him up with their hands to the second floor, and Jon perched on the ledge, still singing with the crowd like there’s no tomorrow (see photo below). Security then pulled him up over the railing, he sang some more from upstairs, then he was gone.

Foreman made it back to the stage, strapped on his harmonica and guitar, then told the crowd they would be playing the entire album The Beautiful Letdown like we played our CD’s on shuffle in a Walkman (look it up, if you’re too young to remember).

“More Than Fine,” “Gone” and “Dare You to Move” were evidently fan favorites as the crowd swayed and sang along with every word. The night ended with Switchfoot classic “Where I Belong.”

Even though they are from San Diego, Switchfoot has ties to the area. Jon Foreman and his brother Tim used to live in nearby Virginia Beach for a bit of their childhood, and have performed at The Norva many times over the years. It is always great to have them back in town.
