But I’m so stoked about this album, that I’m still able to enjoy this part of the journey. With my music, I just always want to be honest in the way a record represents the current season of my life. We all go through so much, good and bad, and my prayer is that we can share our stories and resonate with one another. That’s why music is such a gift.

And that’s why it’s super awesome to piece together everything God has put on my heart over the last year of songwriting. It’s cool to see how far the ideas of this past year have come—whether it was inspiration for a certain lyric, title, or musical sound. I trust this creative time of taking those ideas even farther and establishing what this record will stand for.

Oh, and on a personal note, things have been pretty busy too, because my family and I just moved! You guys, this hits such a chord in the hearts of both my wife and I. When Jamie and I moved to Nashville five years ago, we didn’t have much—in terms of “things,” at least. We felt called here, and so we trusted the Lord. We got by bit by bit, and we certainly never thought we’d be able to own a house. And that would’ve been fine. We knew that as long as we had our faith and our family, we would have such a good life.

But the last couple years have been so overwhelming in how the Lord has provided. We had to learn to really trust Him and lean on Him. We had to trust that He had a plan calling us here. We learned so much along the way and experienced so much that has shaped our lives and who we are. It’s a testament to God’s plan and how it sometimes requires time and always requires faith. It makes me want to jump up and declare to the world, “Just trust God!” I know that tons of moments in life feel like ‘I don’t know why he’s calling me to go there…’ whether it’s Nashville, or Seattle, or Africa…but the provision will always be there no matter what. I can’t guarantee the provision will be what you have in mind for yourself, but it will unfailingly be what He has in mind for you, and that’s going to be better.

When we walked into our new home the first time and held the keys, it was emotional. It was a wow moment for sure, and it’s been an amazing journey getting here. Because like I said, it’s not about the house. It’s about the Lord’s provisions in our lives. It’s about growing closer to Him by trusting him in the tough and uncertain moments. It’s about building a foundation for our family. It’s about my daughter learning the word “great,” and when I ask her “Jolie, what do you think of our new home?” how she says: “Home is great.” -jf
