Jenn Bostic is a indie singer/songwriter in Nashville that blends several genres and influences—blues, soul, country, pop and gospel—in emotive songwriting and delivered with powerful and passionate vocals. She recently released a new song titled “Wrapped.” Jenn wrote this song upon returning from her European tour prematurely due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus—she found hope by picturing an image of being “wrapped” in the Father’s love, choosing faith over fear. “Wrapped” is part of a forthcoming album, produced by Lauren Christy (Avril Lavigne, Jason Mraz, etc.) to be released later this year.

CCM: If you had only five words to describe your new single, it would be…?
Jenn Bostic: Peaceful, Comforting, Inspirational, Safe and Hopeful.

CCM: What led you to pursue a career or ministry in music?
Jenn: Music has always been a big part of my life, enjoyed with and encouraged by family from a young age. When I was ten years old, we lost my dad in a car accident that my brother Jeff and I were involved in. Songwriting became the therapy that got me through that experience. Music was my outlet. I studied music education at Berklee College of Music in hopes of becoming a music teacher and helping introduce music as an outlet to others. However, upon graduation, I felt a strong calling to Nashville, Tennessee, where I currently reside. As I followed the desire in my heart to write, record, and perform music, He started to reveal the ministry within it. Listeners have expressed finding peace and comfort through some of my most vulnerable songs. I have been a worship leader for over a decade, and as I have grown spiritually and musically over the years, He has opened doors that only He can take credit for. My latest EP Take My Hand Part 1, as well as my current single ‘Wrapped,’ are all part of a full length project with Grammy nominated producer and hit songwriter Lauren Christy. Together, we have written an album of songs that we pray glorify God and bring hope to the world.

CCM: What are your hopes for the new project?
Jenn: I was in the middle of an EP release tour across the United Kingdom when first travel bans started being announced. The fear that gripped me during that time, traveling alone, thousands of miles from my family, was something I had never experienced. Prayer, worship, and the image of being wrapped in God’s arms were the only things bringing me peace. The lyric of this song pierced my heart in a powerful. When I finally returned home on the 16th of March, I felt very strongly that if I had found comfort in these words, that others might also find peace during this uncertain time.

CCM: If you could potentially tour with any other artist or band (that you haven’t already), who would you choose and why?
Jenn: for King & Country or Phil Wickham. Both inspire me musically and spiritually. They are doing amazing things to honor His name.

CCM: What was the last song you listened to on your playlist or stereo?
Jenn: ‘Waymaker’ by Leeland

CCM: What was the last book you read?
Jenn: I’m in the middle of reading Universal Christ by Richard Rohr

CCM: If you could tell the world about another artist/band to check out, who would it be?
Jenn: Marc Broussard has always been one of my favorite artists. His voice is unbelievable, and his catalog is incredible. I have seen him live a dozen times and I am always surprised that he’s not playing arenas.

CCM: Name a song that you wish you’d written (and why).
Jenn: “Can’t Make You Love Me,” has always been a favorite song of mine. Bonnie Raitt’s vocal performance, is filled with so much passion, and the lyric is incredibly powerful. I have related that chorus to so many different seasons of life throughout the years.

CCM: Who are your biggest musical influences?
Jenn: Bonnie Raitt, Sarah McLachlan, Eva Cassidy, Sara Bareilles, Marc Broussard, and Phil Wickham

CCM: What was the songwriting process like on this record?
Jenn: Each writing session for the project that Wrapped is a part of began as something of a Bible study conversation. Lauren Christy (Avril Lavigne, Bebe Rexha, Jason Mraz, Dua Lipa) and I wrote all the songs together, with in the inclusion of some incredible writers and producers. Theron “Neff-U” Feemster (Michael Jackson, Eminem, Justin Bieber, Sia) was a cowriter and producer ono this track, bringing the initial lyrical image to a powerful new level. The spiritual growth I experienced during the process of writing and recording this full length record is something I am forever grateful for.

CCM: What message do you hope listeners will take away from your music, regardless of what they believe?
Jenn: I hope the listener finds peace and comfort through this music. This is a unique moment in history, and many of us are fighting fear and/or anxiety. It is my prayer that ‘Wrapped’ will give the listener a moment to escape those feelings, be still, and just breathe.
