Transcending Mysteries: ‘Who Is God and What Does He Want From Us?’ book review

For some Christians (and non-Christians alike), reading through the Old Testament can be a challenge. Dove Award winning artist Ginny Owens and Dove Award nominated singer/songwriter Andrew Greer join forces to help bridge the Bible gap, or as the official press release for Transcending Mysteries more accurately states, “the book tackles how we as Christians can reconcile the God of the Old Testament and Jesus of the New Testament.”

The appealing aspect of this book is its intended and ongoing conversations between the two authors, as Greer and Owens open up about their own tussles and triumphs with faith. This expertly allows the reader to gather a sense that they are able to anonymously eavesdrop or feel like they’re sitting face-to-face with the authors in a coffee shop. “Ginny and I wanted to reopen the story of Scripture, pair it with our own stories as disciples today, and attempt to discover—rather than dictate—God,” states Greer. Adding to its unique approach is the book’s main reliance on The Voice translation (Thomas Nelson) of the Bible, which provides for special nuances to biblical insight and stories.
