Avoiding the clichés of both the praise and worship and Christian rock genres, Mike Lee pulls the best from both worlds on the five-song project Awakening Hearts. The first track, “Different,” is crisp, tight pop/rock with just enough edge, featuring worshipful lyrics without over-the-top dramatics. The playing is good (excellent drumming, in particular), Lee’s vocals are appealing and the melodies are original.
