Zahna ‘Red for War’ Album Review

Zahna
Red for War
(RockFest Records)

Formerly of the hard rock band ILIA, Zahna has ventured out with her debut solo album, Red for War, and it’s a great first step. Zahna’s efforts here are focused and well-produced, but she also brings a welcome coarseness to the table. In fact, if the album stumbles a little, it could stand to be a little rougher around the edges, since Zahna’s vocal style and emotional delivery argue for less cleanliness and a bit more grunge. Her vocals are powerful and pure, and the passion never feels inauthentic.

Whether she’s screaming about the unshakable place we have in Christ, or singing a plaintive melody, her personality and talent drive this project and make the listener want to know what’s coming next from Zahna.
