With the release of their second album with 7 Spin Records, Sevenglory asks listeners to look beyond the things of this world and embrace eternity. Atmosphere boasts a rich rock soundtrack and lyrics that point to the promises of a better life. I was able to get in touch with Sevenglory's lead singer and primary song writer, Fred Butson, to discuss the new album, the group's partnership with World Vision, and much more. So how are you doing this morning? It's pretty early for you. . . Fred Butson: It's alright. I've been waking up for the last two hours, so I just decided to get up, finally.
Yeah, those are tough mornings. You know you should probably just get up, but you just want that extra half hour of sleep. . . (laughs) Exactly.
So you guys are out in the Seattle area or Portland? Somewhere over there, right? Yeah, this week has been all radio promo stuff. We started in Denver, then Seattle, then Portland and we're making our way down the coast to LA. We'll stop in LA, eventually fly home and then drive to a show over the weekend in New Hampshire. Then, right after Thanksgiving, we're doing an East coast radio run.
Wow. Are you going to be able to be at home for Thanksgiving at least? Yeah, we will be home for Thanksgiving. We have three or four days off there.
That's good. It's always good to be with family for Thanksgiving. Yeah, absolutely.
Watch football, hang out and do whatever. Yep. I'm fortunately a Lions fan, so we always play on Thanksgiving.
Really? They look pretty good this year. I know. It's good to be winning some games.
Should be a good game against the Packers on Thanksgiving. Yeah, I'm kind of scared about that one actually, but it hopefully will be a good game.
Alright let's see here. I've noticed from all your imaging, that you seem to like stormy weather. . . Stormy weather?
Yeah. The first album cover had some storm clouds and all the photo shoots seemed to be set in front of a stormy sky. . . And now you're up in the NorthWest where it's always raining. (laughs) Yeah I guess that's right. I'm not sure there's any significance to that. I just. . . I hope our outlook on life is less bleak than it appears on the CD covers and photo shoots.
(laughs) Well, it does make for a beautiful backdrop. The colors are really sharp. Maybe we're the contrast. . .
Yeah, that works and leads us into the current cover art for Atmosphere. I love how there's a rainbow in the background, suggesting the end of a storm, and the contrast of the dry land that you're standing on, indicating that the land hadn't absorbed the rain. Is there any signifigance to that? Yeah, there definitely was in that we titled the CD Atmosphere and we wanted to shape the theme around that and have the artwork reflect that as well. It's about coming out of a season of storms or coming our of a season of being stagnant. And that's not to say that we necessarily were, but a lot of things have happened to us in the last couple of years that we wanted to kind of break out of our old mold of limitations that we'd put on ourselves and see what God is capable of doing through us. So a lot of the CD talks about just going for more in life and reaching for more. Really letting your heart guide you and really letting what you know God has for you guide you out of just sitting in the unknown.
