Rend Collective – ‘Campfire Christmas, Vo1. 1’ album review

Nov15-RCrev-750x400

Fresh from the release of their chart-topping album As Family We Go, Rend Collective is putting the musical star atop a tree made of momentum with a holiday release entitled Campfire Christmas (Vol. 1). Already well known for their celebratory refrains and vibrant live shows, the band brings significant joy through their yuletide inventions (and reinventions). Christmas staples are turned on their head with the imaginative takes on “O Come All Ye Faithful (Let Us Adore Him)” and “Joy to the World (You Are My Joy).” Even more inspired is the band’s more straightforward version of “O Holy Night (O Night Divine).” However the album’s true highlight is its nod to the band’s Northern Irish roots on the lone non-traditional track, a cover of Ash’s “Shining Light.”
