Rock What You Got
THE PERFECT SUMMER SOUNDTRACK

Sweeping piano melodies, haunting strings, ethereal vocals… Wait, this is a rock band? Yep. Superchick is back. After three years void of new studio content, the girl-powered innovators have emerged with an album so good it virtually demands listening. Don’t get the wrong idea, though, they’re here to rock. Tracks “Rock What You Got,” “Alive” and “Cross the Line” rely on the hefty guitar riffs that Superchick is happy to provide. On “So Beautiful,” the Brock sisters give girls everywhere another anthem with lyrics like “We were meant to be more than these shadows of girls,” backed by a gutsy guitar that definitely means business.

Creative genius and member Max Hsu dons the role of producer on this album, and he somehow outdoes himself on every track. His meshing of crisp vocal stylings looped through orchestral arrangements is flawless, and it reaches a crescendo on “Stand in the Rain (symphonic mix).” Here, Hsu proves Superchick has evolved well beyond its “Barlow Girl” days by masterfully mixing an urgent and beautiful vocal with soaring strings and a piano solo that marks this track as true art. This project will surely become the band’s defining moment, and listeners will be hitting repeat on tracks like “Hey Hey” all summer long. –Grace Cartwright

BHonest...don't hate, appreciate!!!! Hey I think this album is pretty sweet, not only because it empowers and encourages girls, makes me feel happy, and is a good listen for all, but because it is pure and simply good music. The lyrics are powerful and fun, and the musicianship is on a whole new level from the past. Hey, everyone has a right to their own opinion, but I full heartedly agree with Cartwright on this one.

"girl-powered"...I'm sorry, "girls" don't write music with this much kick in the behind. These folks, Max Hsu (not a girl) and Tricia and her sister, and Dave, they just plain ROCK the 2000s. Hard, driving, sure, a little tighter produced than past records, but, frankly, being 45+, I'm tired of folks insisting that bad record production is merely a "raw" sound that kids today like. Bull hockey! Their first few records had this sound, it endeared them to folks...but where do you go to "grow up" as you "grow up"? You go right here. Superchic(k) chic, chik...you embody what it means to be a human male/female with HOPE and DESIRE, and PASSION, and PURPOSE. What humanity, when it is restored to its designed purpose, can be!

I'm going to church now, and ROCK WHAT I GOT, in the praise band (teh reason I'm here...to glorify God and His people).

    I disagree with "BHonest".
I truly believe that this is definitely their best album ever and is a huge step UP. The lyrics are smoother and the harmonies do not disappoint. The changes in style ensure Superchick does not remain stuck in a rut and there is not a weak spot on the record. Listen to it for yourself at http://inpop.com/superchick/ecard/.
They gave it 110% and it shows in every note!
