Isa’s wonderful sophomore release,
Raw Sessions, is simple in that it’s brilliantly innocent. Like a ray of sun streaming down from a cloudy sky, her voice effortlessly takes center stage. Singing over the listener a beautifully woven web of cries and promises, Isa captures you with her modern-day psalms. Each ballad, from the first to the last, flows together and folds into a genuinely intimate worship experience.
Purposefully sparse production and subdued background vocals make room for lyrical content that lives up to the album title. In the especially vulnerable “All That You Dreamed Of,” this San Francisco songwriter sings, “I want to be all that you dreamed of/Let me be all that you dreamed of/When you saw my frame.” The unadulterated tenor of the album is the perfect framework for these common but fresh human longings.

In a world where busyness too often holds us hostage, albums like this create a quiet moment for our inner person. The truest worship speaks to the Source of the message, not the messenger. Raw Sessions does just that. So step into this moment, and keep an ear out for the standout tracks “Testify” and “Holy Spirit Come”; and see if you can manage to not have a second listen when “Safe Place” wraps up.
