With Christmas coming around the corner faster than Santa's sleigh on light speed, malls are overflowing with shoppers and stress levels are heating up amongst the society in general. But here at CCM, we've been channeling that pursuit of worldly treasures towards a more reflective tone this season, counting down the "12 Days of Christmas" by highlighting one of your favorite faith-based artists talking about their favorite outreach organizations. Today we get the scoop on the One Campaign from Third Day's Tai Anderson.

A few years ago, I took a trip to northern Uganda to witness for myself the unimaginable realities I had seen in the film
Invisible Children. The movie shed light on the indescribable cruelty of children abducted from their homes and forced to fight in a war in which they wanted no part. As a result, a whole generation of kids would commute for miles every evening to find shelter in community centers together rather than risk being abducted from their own beds. I heard the kids' stories. I literally walked a few miles in their shoes, or lack there of, and I saw firsthand the work of World Vision to help rehabilitate the children who had managed to escape their tormenters.

I returned from that trip motivated and passionate to try and make a difference for these children and the millions of others like them around the world—children who were having their childhoods ripped away from them by war, poverty and disease. But I also returned to a country with its own problems. I returned to a community with its own problems. I returned to a church with its own problems.
How could I get our fans, my neighbors and friends to be aware of the kinds of things I had seen in Uganda? How can I use this awareness to get them to care, and then to do something about it? Not everyone is in a position to donate money or time, but all of us can at least take a stand. All of us can take the simple first step of joining the ONE CAMPAIGN.
What is the ONE CAMPAIGN? Well, as a touring musician, I best relate to musical metaphors. The ONE CAMPAIGN is a giant microphone. First, the microphone is passed to the poor and gives voice to their issues, plights and concerns. Then the microphone is passed to you, giving you the opportunity to let our leaders know how we feel about the poor's struggle in the world. When you join the ONE CAMPAIGN, it joins your singular voice with a chorus of 2 million other voices and amplifies our demand to treat the poor fairly. A singular voice can be lost to the background noise of life, but a chorus of millions cannot be ignored. By joining ONE, you can help give a voice to the children in Uganda that have no say. And not only do you give a voice to the children in Uganda, but you give a voice to the fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons and daughters who can't speak for themselves as the invisible and poor of this world.
So, check back over the coming days and connect yourself to an organization that is making a difference. But before you do, take a second to add your name to a movement of people around the world who are doing their part to make poverty history.
