(laughs) That's always kind of strange, actually, but I love that because it kind of shows that it crosses over the generation gap.
Yeah. It kind of gives you a sense of ownership on some level. You're kind of like excited that a song that inspired you inspired someone else too. Yeah.
Alright now, I wanted to give you a chance to talk a little bit about the Falling Tsar project, since that's such an interesting bit of work. Good deal. Well, I guess I'll give you the whole story. I was working with Sev Statik on doing an EP when he was going to be out here for Scribble Jam. And - well, actually, I should say that he was working on it with Theory Hazit and then he called me and asked if I wanted to work on it with them. And I said, "Yes, I would love to." And we decided to get one more [emcee] to work with, so we got Wonder Brown in on it. The final product ended up including all the core members of Scribbling Idiots - even if it was one guest appearence. But, we did this EP and I had a close friend of mine, his name is Eric Place, he had recently passed away. He had had fibromyalgia. Eric always wanted to have a band called Falling Tsar and I always thought that it was a clever play on words so I said, "Let's call it the Falling Tsar Project." So we did and when we were done with the EP, we didn't know what we should do with it - if we should put it out ourselves or if we should find a label to put it out. So we couldn't figure out what to do and I had called to check in on Eric's widow and son, Mason. I found out that Mason had been diagnosed with bone cancer and was undergoing chemo treatment. And I knew that had to be hard and that they were struggling financially to make sure that everything was taken care of with Mason's medical treatment. So, I just saw that as an opportunity from God to use this music to help someone in need, to actually minister to a need. So we decided to put out the project and illect partnered with us on it to help raise money for Mason's medical bills. Right after we decided to do it, we found out that Leslie was about to lose her job, because she worked in a government program and the new mayor had decided to discontinue the program and she was about to lose her job. So, all the more reason to really get on our horse and put out the project.
So the project's been out for a month or two now and I think that it's doing okay, but we certainly want to do more and get the word out so that people are aware of the project and what the money's going toward. Last I heard, Mason had just finished up his last chemo treatment and he's gonna have to continue to do follow-ups to make sure that the cancer doesn't come back, but he has a clean biil of health right now. But obviously they still have this huge financial burden right now.
Well, that's awesome that he's cancer free at the moment. That's good news. Yeah. I'm really happy with the Falling Tsar project, too. Like I said, I see it as an opportunity from God. It's a blessing to get that opportunity to actually do something that makes a difference in someone's life with your music. I think a lot of times as an artist, you say that you're doing it for the right reasons or whatever, but a lot of times, it feels like you're doing it for your own selfish ambition. I know myself, I go through seasons where I feel that way. So doing the Falling Tsar project was amazing.
That's good. Now to kind of completely change gears and drop in a fun question. Do you have any early football picks or predictions? (laughs) Well, of course I have predictions and my prediction is that the San Diego Chargers will take their rightful spot at the top of the NFL and win it all this year.
(laughs) Of course. Being a long-time Chargers fan, the long-suffering Chargers fan that I am, I see it as only right that San Diego fans get some relief.
It could happen. (laughs) I think that as long as they don't let it go to their heads that they're the favorites, that they can do it this year.
I figured you'd have something good to say about football anyway. Now, is there anything that I missed? Any parting shots you wanna leave us with? Man, nah. You know, I think you did a good job asking questions. Just go buy every Scribbling Idiots release that's out.
(laughs) Definitely. ScribblingIdiots.com, visit the catalog and buy it all. (laughs) Yeah.
Well, have a good weekend. You too man, thanks.
