Yes. Right now, I think that's the only way. I think they're hoping to get those songs up on iTunes and I think that illect [recordings] has planned on doing something where if you bought the vinyl, they would burn you a CD as well. But, yeah, it's sort of like a collector's item, too, because we only pressed 500 copies of it.
Alright, so I guess those songs don't really represent the rest of the album at all, then. No, not really. They don't really fit in with. . . The album is so polished sonically. Everything about the album is extremely polished. Every song is very complete in the way that it sounds. We've made sure that there weren't any dead spots or something that would be a lull or a boring part of the record. Not to say that those songs have those things either, but like I said, they're just grimy. They sound really underground and dusty and we love that, but it just doesn't fit the record. So, no they're not very good representations of what the record is going to sound like.
Fair enough. Change did the engineering, right? Yep. We did all the recording in our studios, but he did the mixing and mastering and he did a great job.
That's good. He does good work. He does. We're very happy with the final product.
So, now that you've been signed to illect recordings for a while, how has not being an independent collective changed the way you go about your day-to-day business? I think it helps us to be a little more organized and to take into consideration what the smartest move is businesswise. We've tried to smart about most things the whole time, but when you're just an artist, it doesn't really matter if you put out album on top of album - you know, record constantly and lack in shows - or if you do a lot of shows and never record anything. (laughs) You can sort of do whatever you want. The great thing about illect is that they work. They sort of partner with the artist, so they're very easy to work with and they've helped us to be more organized and professional in our approach to the music.
Yeah, you had mentioned Spitting Images and I remember - in fact, I stumbled across it earlier today - you had posted a message back in November of 2005 announcing that Spitting Images would be out in 2006. (laughs) I thought for sure I was gonna get to nail you on that point, 'cause the album never came out. (laughs) Yeah, it never did. That's an interesting story though, because the album. . . We had it complete - at least we thought we did. And the original finished album did have "Told You So" and "Through the Clouds" on it. And it had that song "Spitting Images" as well, and that's what we handed into illect when we were shopping the record. I think they would've gladly put that out, but we weren't happy with it. So we scrapped half of that record and just picked the best songs - the songs we felt were the best - and we built off of that to finish what ended up being The Have Nots.
