Even if the Newsboys have had a revolving membership door as of late, the band is going back in time to reunite with Jody Davis. Though the guitarist originally stepped down to be with his family five years ago, the itch to perform has finally returned with the May 5 release In the Hands of God (Inpop) marking his official comeback collection. Fans will also recall Paul Colman playing in his absence, though he’ll return to a solo career with the release of History (Inpop) at the end of the month.

MAX’S ONLINE ALBUM

Throughout December, Kevin Max may have been busy celebrating the holiday season, but he also released the brand-new digital EP Crashing Gates (available now at iTunes). The seven song collection is said to stylistically pick up where his last alternative album, The Imposter, left off, following a critically acclaimed foray into old-school gospel. The dcTalk star says the album’s theme revolves around the Apocalypse.

COOL HAND CONCERTS

After having recently released the indie album The Sleeping House, ethereal rockers Cool Hand Luke return to the road this month. The jaunt is currently in progress, running through January 24 in Burlington, N.C., with My Epic as the support act.

JAKES’ MAJOR MOVIE

He may not be a musician, but Bishop T.D. Jakes is no stranger to having gospel guests at his Potter’s House church. This weekend, his novel Not Easily Broken hits the silver screen as a major release starring Morris Chestnut. This joint effort between T.D. Jakes Ministries and Sony Pictures traces the fictional couple Dave and Clarice Johnson, who are weathering several relationship storms and must address their original wedding vows in the heat of temptation and adversity.
