HeadzupFM’s Ministry To Broadcast Holy Hip-Hop

Echoing One 3, DJ I Rock Jesus of the "Live Mix Show" said, "I've been waiting for a station like Headzup FM for quite a while and I'm excited about it!  I was a Dee Jay in the world for 18 years before God called me to be His DJ.  After hearing what God was doing through new forms of music such as hip-hop, rock, reggae, techno...I had a desire to be used this music with this generation.  The Holy Spirit led me to Deuteronomy 30:19, 'I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses.  Therefore choose life!'  Basically it was a confirmation that I should do all the Lord directed me to do, to offer a choice of music for life. Now It's obvious that music for death is available 24/7.  I believe Headzup FM is commissioned to do the same thing!  My weekly show, The Live Mix Show has found a home at Headzup FM and its been a blessing!  Much love to Headzup and all the listeners for their support of the show and the encouragement to continue it."

The Headzup FM listener is exposed to positive Christian options and a clean family safe environment in comparison to many negative images found in secular hip-hop and R&B without compromising the quality and quantity of music the hip-hop listeners have come to expect. Our air staff and music content promotes a Christian lifestyle and values without compromise. ”It's hard not to notice the recent articles that say that the holy hip-hop community is not united or fractured.” That has not been the experience of Headzup FM.  "With all the gospel record labels, crews and media outlets who have voluntarily become our partners, we really don't know division." says station manager Pete Walker.

The vision for Headzup began in 2002 with a festival type hip hop event that took place May 16th that year in Alhambra Ca. Headzup resident pastor and artist known as DJ Elder explains, "From the beginning our vision was to impact the hip-hop culture for Jesus Christ.  We want to give the unsaved hip-hop community a "heads up" about the gospel and we want to keep our heads up towards the purposes God has in store for us, both as a church plant and as an internet radio station. Currently we will be continuing having services and Bible studies in the Los Angeles area as long as God sees fit. We have been fortunate to have many gifted artists come share our stage during our services. Our vision for Headzup also continues as a strong calling to make an impact upon the culture of hip hop.”

With an average audience ranging from 9 to 45 years of age, Headzup FM has made a statement that holy hip-hop and R&P are in demand from college campuses, places of business, coffee shops, and the overseas stationed military persons thanks to the power of the internet. The podcasts and wireless technology make Headzup portable enough to bump in your car. "We've heard it rattling the cars while stuck in L.A. traffic," says Frank of Victory Outreach. DJ Heat put it this way, "I've been in the mix since 1984.  From house parties to college dances to concerts to underground Christian clubs; nothing compares, in my opinion, to mixing on the air on a radio show.  A chance to be heard glorifying God with your mixes by millions of listeners is breath taking.  I would love to see this radio station (the only one of its kind) be the number one source for the world; secular or Christian."
