UPBEAT GROOVES AND WORSHIPFUL BALLADS
When you think of Christian bands from Sweden, you probably think of Blindside ... and that’s it. But soon you’ll think of Blue Eyes Soul as well. Not that the two bands have much in common beyond their shared homeland: Whereas the former is a metal band, Blue Eyes Soul creates an ultra-catchy mélange of rock, pop, and R&B that ranges from big pop to worshipful ballads.
The strongest song on the album, “I Won’t Deny You,” is a huge anthem for today’s young generation. Wrapped in an upbeat groove, the worshipful lyrics evoke strong emotions. You could very easily imagine hearing a song like this on a tobyMac album.
However, the listener is more likely to be drawn to the honest and mature moments when the band slows things down. The real gems are songs like “Jehovah,” with its Coldplay-esque piano bridge, and “You Alone.” These guys still have a way to go, but there is strong lyrical evidence on this album that Blue Eyes Soul have a heart for impacting kids and their eyes are seeking the One above.
