For nearly 20 years, Third Day’s been blending modern pop, southern rock, country and even worship, yielding one of the most fervent followings in Christian music history. All of those diverse musical aspects were on display during a marathon two hour evening that covered the high points of the band’s ten studio albums.
The most treasured moments of the evening came from what front man Mac Powell referred to as the “old school cuts,” which included classics like “Consuming Fire,” “I’ve Always Loved You” and “Your Love Oh Lord.”
In terms of newer cuts, the group walked on stage to the soulful “Lift Up Your Face” and continued kicking with “I Got a Feeling” and “Call My Name,” before calming down with the contemplative acoustics of “Follow Me There.”
The group also stripped down its guitar- centered wall of sound come an acoustic set staged in the center of the venue, including moving reflections like “God of Wonders” and “Cry Out To Jesus.” Not only did the segment highlight the band’s bare bones musicality, but it also provided fans seated further back a much more intimate glimpse.
Taking cues from its current live CD/DVD Inside and In Between, Tenth Avenue North turned in its most popular tracks (“Love Is Here,” “You Are More,” “House of Mirrors”) complete with the lyrics posted high above the audience’s heads to enhance the already worshipful atmosphere.
As an added bonus to the evening, Tenth Avenue North also debuted a new tune written especially for the tour. “You Don’t Owe Me Anything” served as an inspiring modern rocker about never being able to repay the debt of Christ’s crucifixion.
