QQQQ
Songsmith Josh Wilson comes out swinging
with his latest effort, a beautiful kaleidoscope
of smartly-cast lyrics (especially on “Behind
the Beauty”) and buoyant guitar backings.
He ties it all together with a rich and colorful
vocal, which sounds more polished and
controlled than on his previous efforts. He
has the makings of a hit after hit-man, most
notably on the bluegrass influenced “Shine
on Us” and “Forest Fire,” where every musical
aspect is flawless. The fact that he played over
20 instruments himself sweetens the effort
that much more.

Beautiful design (Madicah Music/New Day)

QQQ
Much of the inspiration behind Jason Bare’s
coming of age collection Beautiful Design
stems from the unexpected passing of his
cousin Amanda due to a medically-induced
drug overdose. As a result, he turns to
themes of redemption
across “Story of Grace
(Amanda’s Song)”
and “you Found
Me,” along with the
picking-up-the-pieces
anthem “Touch the
Sky.” Though he
could benefit from a bit more vocal gusto,
the production excels from the experience
of former plus One vocalist nathan Walters
and Loren Barton (Felicia Barton, Coko), who
provide the project with a sunny but not
overly shiny coat of paint.

More than Moved (in:ciite)
FOR FANS OF: Bart Millard, John Waller,
Casting Crowns
QQQ
Formerly a member of
pop group FFH, Michael
Boggs has emerged
with his first solo
project. Surprisingly,
he steps away from
the vocal stylings of
the band and into a high-energy worship
style similar to Casting Crowns. It works.
Although not highly original, songs like “Don’t
Wanna Wait” and “near you” are solid and
listener friendly. The jewel of the album is
his collaboration with Christy nockels, which
soars vocally and lyrically.
