T.D. Jakes presents Sacred love Songs 2
(Universal/Fontana) FOR FANS OF: Smooth R&B QQQ
Over ten years ago Potter’s House pastor T.D. Jakes released Sacred Love Songs, a soundtrack for scriptural romance, selling nearly a half million copies. Part two continues exploring the Bible’s definition of love through songs by r&B talents (Ledisi, Joe) and Gospel greats (Karen Clark-Sheard, Fred Hammond) and spoken word snippets by Jakes. Though these brief narratives are distracting, sultry urban grooves, stellar vocals and decent song selection keep the record afloat.

her shimmering soul and boisterous r&B originals, plus a return to her gospel roots (“His Eye Is On The Sparrow” featuring her son Eddie) and even a nod to patriotism (“My Country ‘Tis of Thee”), which in the case of those two covers, never sounded better.

live out loud (E1) FOR FANS OF: Martha Munizzi, Marvin Sapp, Vashawn Mitchell QQQ
Trying to bridge the racial rift between Gospel and modern worship music, Preashea enlists various musical tricks: blazing horn hits, hooky choruses and
high-energy praise vocal leadership to uplift her first nationwide live worship recording. Employing like-minded, multi-genre musicians like CeCe winans, Israel Houghton and Aaron Lindsey to duet, co-write and produce, Live succeeds in its musical hybrid. But her nonstop vocal shout outs—no doubt effective in concert—sound overbearing on stereo speakers.
