It’s Christian music’s biggest night.
Not because of a red carpet or designer gowns.
Not even because of the awards most Christian artists
think about at least once or twice during their career.
No, the Dove Awards are more of a homecoming of
sorts. Some have likened it to a big church service…a
church service where artists, industry and fans come
together and celebrate the year that was.
2010 was a year to remember. Nearly every major artist
released a new project alongside a crop of some of the
most inspiring, fresh talent the industry has seen. Without
question, this year’s Doves are anybody’s game.
And the game faces
are on! For the first time,
the Dove Awards will take
place in Atlanta—not in
their previous ‘hometown’
of Nashville. Already, the
response has been amaz-
ing, but given the show’s
line-up of performers,
why wouldn’t it be? Add
to that this year’s host—
actor, talk show host and
comedian Sherri Shep-
herd (“The View”).
“I’ve gotta tell you—when they asked me to host, I was
terrified,” says Sherri with a laugh. “This is the first awards
show I’ve hosted by myself. But I love gospel music, Chris-
tian music and I want to come and honor these artists. It’s
almost like a fan hosting the show!”
It seems like she’ll be in good company! With most seats
at the Historic Fox Theater in Atlanta already sold, it’s
clear that the fans have a voice.
