OperatiOn Beautiful: rOck What YOu GOt!
Transforming the way you see yourself one post-it note at a time. By Adria Haley
Clearly the writer of Proverbs not only knew much about
wisdom, but also much about the heart of a woman (and
a man, actually). Chapter 16, verse 24 proclaims, “Pleasant
words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to
the bones.” Women especially desire to hear sweet and
uplifting words, reminding them that they are perfectly
and beautifully crafted. And when you live in a society
that’s blasting so many negative messages, it doesn’t hurt
to stumble across some unexpected reminders of truth
here and there.
For this reason, Caitlin Boyle launched Operation
Beautiful from her blog in June of 2009. Her goal was to
end negative self-talk in girls, women and men—hoping
to encourage a positive body image in ourselves and
in others; believing that true beauty does indeed come
from the inside. The core of her message is that we are all
beautiful. You are enough… just the way you are.
Her mission to post anonymous notes in public places
for other women to find has become an international
movement. From the mirrors of public restrooms to
the aisles of grocery stores, people are discovering
encouraging messages—all proclaiming “You are
beautiful!” in some form or fashion. Even Oprah herself
has noticed this new brushfire of positive communication
and healthy body image promotion. Caitlin will be
featured on the Oprah Winfrey Network in January 2011.
Additionally, her blog was awarded “Best Humanitarian
Effort of 2009” by Foodbuzz.
So when it comes to embracing beauty and shouting it
to the mountaintops, who better to be that mouthpiece
than the band Superchick? This five-member InPop
Records band titled their latest and fifth rock-o-
tronic sounding album Rock What You Got… a perfect
partnership in carrying on the Operation Beautiful
message. While their song “So Beautiful” is the perfect
anthem for Caitlin’s beauty movement.
