Acts 13:38 “Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.”
Earlier this week, the Vatican added some new sins to the list of deadly sins that people should avoid. Among the new entries are ruining the environment and morally debatable scientific experiments. The Pope went on to say that he’s concerned about the “decreasing sense of sin” in today’s world. Some may feel this expansion of the list of the deadly sins as a rather severe move by the Vatican, but I think we could all agree that sin isn’t treated ne
arly as seriously as it should be in today’s society. Let’s never forget that God takes sin very seriously. No matter what the offense is, big or small, sin is a grievous offense to God; and we’re all guilty of it. The good news, however, is that God also provided a way for us to be free from sin. Sin was such a serious problem, that God had to sacrifice is one and only son to pay the price for our sin, and yet he did so because he loves us so much. Better yet, Jesus didn’t stay dead, he arose in victory so that not only can we be free from sin but we can also enjoy life eternal through him. As we approach Easter, let’s never forget just how serious, how wretched sin really is, and let’s also never forget the good news that God took care of the serious problem of sin in Jesus Christ. That’s good news we need to share this Easter season.
