Philippians 2:13 “For it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose.”
I have a confession to make; I’m an annoying driver. I don’t always obey speed limits, sometimes I cut off other drivers, other times I purposely do irritating things to other drivers (usually because they did something dumb or did something irritating to me first). This driving behavior of mine used to be very embarrassing to my wife. Well, it still is, but not as much as it used to be. You see, we used to have a Jesus fish on our car, and it so embarrassed my wife that I would do some n
ot very Christian things in our car that had a Christian symbol. Now obviously the right solution wasn’t to remove that symbol so I could get away with stuff, and that’s not what happened – somebody stole it. Still, the issue isn’t whether or not our cars have Christian symbols or we wear Christian symbols and therefore should be careful how we act. The issue is that Christ lives in us as Christians, and there for our entire lives should be Christian symbols – in fact, we ourselves should look and act like Christ. I admit that my behavior in my car should change, regardless of whether or no it has a Jesus fish. The good news is that by the grace of God I can change. In fact, we all can change and be more like Christ by letting the Holy Spirit do his perfecting work in us. After all, our lives and they way we act will often be the only way many people will ever be introduced to the good news; so drive carefully.
