“For much of my life, I’ve felt if I am not defined by my career, I’m extremely useless,” she says. “But it’s knowing what His love for us really looks like and how that does make a difference that has been a huge part of my journey.”

It is that very thing that is also a huge part of her latest album, Love Be The Loudest (buy).

“This project has a hopeful sentiment overall,” says Owens. “I want to encourage people. The current state we’re in is so loud. On Facebook and all social media, people are always shouting and declaring their truth and opinion. It’s hard to hear God’s voice in the midst of that. Sometimes it’s not social media. It can be the voices in our own heads. But my hope for all of us is that we would learn to allow God’s voice to be the dominant voice. That we would know Him through His word and spending time with Him. Every song kind of relates to that theme in some way.”

As the album began to take shape thematically, Owens was pleasantly surprised to realize that sonically, there were also common threads throughout the songs, weaving together a cohesive project. “I was writing for about a year and a half, wondering, thinking and praying about the kind of project I should make next. The fact that the project came together was pretty amazing. There were six different producers this time. Every time I wrote there was someone different in the room. We were singing vocals here and recording parts there. It is absolutely the most pop record I’ve ever made.”
