Lickety Split  (Blue Note Records)
by Robert Randolph & The Family Band

FOR FANS OF: The Black Crowes, Ben Harper, Eric Clapton
Rating: 4 Stars

Every album into his celebrated career, Robert Randolph and company continue to stretch deeper into an electrifying spread of rock, funk, gospel and R&B, all centered around the leader’s pedal steel guitar prowess. Though there’s plenty to devour musically from this prodigy, his talented backers, plus guests Carlos Santana and Trombone Shorty, the songwriting remains rooted in the sacred, even as the troupe’s audience expands like lightning in the mainstream.
