Lyric: “Have what you want, but want what you have
And don’t spend your life looking back
Turn up the music
Turn it up loud”

Scripture: “Let your conduct be without covetousness; and be content with what you have, for God has said, ‘I will never leave you, nor forsake you.’” (Hebrews 13:5)
Reflection: “Have what you want, but want what you have.” What an inspiring lyric! This entire song is a challenge to live in a way that blesses others and glorifies God. How important it is for us to be content; and yet a rare theme it is in today’s modern, materialistic (and disposable) society.
Jesus came that we might have life, and have it more abundantly (John 10:10). I believe abundant living begins with a thankful heart and a content spirit. The apostle Paul stated that he learned to be content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. Then he emphatically declared, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Phil 4:11-13).
Contentment is a choice. Discontentment is an affront to the Lord, who promises provision for us. We as Christians are immensely blessed. And it pleases the heart of God when we are truly appreciative for, and satisfied with, all He has given us, whether it’s relationships, material things or talents and abilities.
Be thankful. Be content. Don’t live with regret, but in abundance of what you already have. Turn up the music. Turn it up loud!
