FLASHLIGHT: A Closer Look at... Seabird

Tasteful, reliable and epic, these four stalwarts from Cincinnati, Ohio, are the perfect medium of progressive pop and emotive indie rock. At first listen, images of the Killers and Jeff Buckley are conjured up in your imagination. This is a bit more than predictable, patented songwriting, though, and the honest element of this band is obvious after listening to about 30 seconds of this debut. Lush instrumentation, via keyboards and banjos, gives a sense there is something profound happening with these guys.

With a debut album on the way (‘Til We See the Shore), vocalist Aaron Morgan comments on the band’s direction: “Making a record that’s unforgettable was certainly a goal of mine when we went into the studio. Whether or not we accomplished that is yet to be seen, but we believe we have as good a shot as any at impacting today’s audience in a positive way. It would be easy to view other bands as competition; but from where we’re standing, it would seem there are still far more listeners than there are artists. There is nothing more satisfying than to root for the underdog and see them accomplish something great, even if their accomplishment didn’t win the game. I’d be fine with being the underdog for the rest of our career if it meant surprising the critics and nay sayers every time we scored a touchdown.”

The debut will be in stores June 24. In the meantime, you can purchase Seabird’s new EP, Let Me Go On, via iTunes, which contains several tracks from the upcoming LP. The band will be on the road hitting various festivals throughout the summer introducing its new sound to the universe. myspace.com/seabird
